§ 5.52.110. Junkyards—Fences, gates and screening.

  • The premises of each junkyard in the city shall be enclosed by a fence and shall be screened, except for the driveway areas, by fences, so as not to be visible from the street, highway or adjacent property. When wooden planks or chain link fences are installed at a junkyard location, the installation shall not permit the junkyard to be seen from the nearest roadway. Wooden plank shall be installed in such a manner that no storage in the junkyard can be seen from the road. Vinyl or metal slats shall be interwoven into chain link fence to the degree that no storage can be seen from the road. The wall, fence and screening shall not be constructed out of salvage materials or corrugated tin. Such fence shall be a minimum of six feet in height and all entrances to the premises shall be equipped with gates. All fences and gates shall be kept in good and sightly condition. The type and design of any fence or wall required shall be approved by the building inspector.
