§ 8.16.191. Protected aboveground stationary tank storage—Outside of buildings—Conditional use.

  • When allowed by zoning and approved by the fire chief, storage and dispensing of Class II or Class III-A flammable liquids from a single tank per site having a capacity of not more than one thousand gallons, may be permitted outside and aboveground as permitted by zoning and installed as required by this section.

    Tank design: tank shall be a two-hour fire-rated protected tank UL Listed to UL 2085 label. Tank shall be ballistics protected per UFC and UL 2085. Tank shall include internal secondary leak containment and interstitial leak monitor. Piping, valves, fittings, ancillary equipment and installation shall comply with the Uniform Fire Code. Dispensing of flammable liquid shall be by pumping only with no gravity feed allowed.

    Security: aboveground tanks shall be safeguarded from public access or unauthorized use in an approved manner. Aboveground tanks shall be protected against impact by a motor vehicle with guard posts.

    Location: aboveground tanks shall not be located in a front yard as defined by the zoning ordinance.
